“Magic Woman”

by Sky Sunlight Saxon Universal Stars Peace Band
1984 song

In decent bootleg sound quality, "Magic Woman" leads off Side 2 of the 1984 album Masters Of Psychedelia. "Magic Woman", like the rest of the songs on Side 2, was recorded sometime in the mid-1970s with the Fire, Water, Air band (as heard on the album Golden Sunrise).

Sky Saxon, his voice distant and heavily echoed, wails freely on "Magic Woman". The music is quick and funky, with a wah-wah guitar sounding like disco music emanating up a stairwell from Owsley’s cellar. Towards the end of "Magic Woman" though, the band slows down and everything suddenly grows much more psychedelic. Sky keeps up his foggy guided tour; whatever he’s singing it sounds plausible. “Hypnotizing, and mesmerizing,” he drones very slowly. Indeed.
