“Shuckin’ And Jiving”

by The Seeds
1972 song

"Shuckin' And Jiving" was the A-side of an obscure 7″ single credited to The Seeds in 1972. The song does not in fact feature Sky Saxon; it’s sung by guitarist Richard Barcelona who joined this last-ditch version of The Seeds before they crumbled apart and Sky took up with the Source Family. “Shuckin’ and Jiving” has been unofficially included on European Seeds rarities albums and has thus become a kind of quasi-canonical Seeds track. It’s a lengthy and enjoyable example of 1970s guitar wankery with Barcelona’s appealing, searching vocals. (Note that Sky Saxon is the star of this record’s flip side, "You Took Me By Surprise".)
