“Seven Mystic Horsemen”

by Sky Sunlight Saxon
2005 song

Things take a turn closer to the mainstream on "Seven Mystic Horsemen", the fourth track on 2005’s Transparency. It’s a shimmering pop-rock tune, replete with hypnotic chiming guitar from Sterling Roswell and a subtle but effective psychedelic swoosh flowing underneath it all. Sky Saxon is in his fragile voice, sweet and childlike. He sounds less high than on other songs on the album, which is just as well: the melody is trickier on "Seven Mystic Horsemen" and he needs to concentrate. (And don’t worry – he nails it, in his usual all’s-well-that-ends-well way.)

On the sleeve of a promo version of the Transparency CD, "Seven Mystic Horsemen" (and only this song) bears the plaintively hopeful phrase “Radio suggestion”. It is indeed a good choice for radio station program directors with heart, though I’m not sure it was ever likely that "Seven Mystic Horsemen" would become a hit. The world just isn’t righteous enough.
